Home Defense
Course Description
This one-day course is to help citizens come up with a home defense plan and test out their chosen weapon system (pistol, rifle or shotgun) in real world scenarios. Students will review legal cases involving use of a firearm to defend a residence and debrief lessons learned. Those lessons will be applied in live fire exercises on the range. The topics that will be covered include:
- Clearing rooms
- Penetration / Cover / Concealment
- Legal Responsibilities
- Shoot/ No Shoot Scenarios
There will be classroom instruction along with live fire scenarios.
*Students can use revolvers but should realize that it will be a long day with many trigger presses and reloads.
Required Equipment
- Eye Protection (wrap around style)
- Home Defense Weapon
- Three magazines* (If using a magazine fed system)
- Magazine retention system (vest, belt, chest harness, etc.)
- Ear Protection
- 300 rounds of ammunition
- Sling (If using long gun)
Recommended Equipment
- Cold/ Wet Weather Gear (as appropriate)
- Notebook w/ writing utensil
- Cleaning kit
- Knee pads / Elbow pads
- Brimmed hat
- Loose fitting clothing (no shorts)
- Camelback or similar
