Officer Rescue First Aid (LE)
Course Description
This one day first aid course for the officer to learn what lifesaving interventions can be utilized to save a fellow officer’s life in a traumatic situation. Students will be shown what items they should carry in their first aid kits and how to use those items under stress. This course will cover the basics of first aid in a down and dirty approach. The topics that will be covered include:
- Rapid Patient Assessment -Ballistic/ Blast Injuries
- First Aid Kits
- Airway management
- Trauma management
- Tourniquets and Hemostatics
- Care under fire
- Environmental injury management
Participants will learn trauma management techniques and get to utilize these techniques hands on with a partner. Participants should bring a first aid kit of some sort to work with and recommendations will be provided.
Required Equipment
- Issued pistol (no ammunition needed or allowed) with duty belt
- Flashlight
- Soft body armor (If issued)
Recommended Equipment
- Training uniform
- Note pad and pen
- Any first aid gear (if issued and/or carried)
- Knee pads strongly recommended
- Cold weather / Wet weather gear (as appropriate)
